LEG - Synovial sarcoma

Description
The specimen is an apparently encapsulated nodular lesion; the cut surface shows white tumour in which there are areas of haemorrhage.
History
This lesion is from a man of 20 who presented with a swelling on the medial side of the left leg in relationship to the medial belly of gastrocnemius. At operation the tumour was in the position of a ganglion of the semi-membranosis bursa. Histologically the lesion was a biphasic synovial sarcoma. Nine months later there were no signs of local recurrence and there was no evidence of metastatic disease.
